The best decision I ever made & Iams Home 4 the Holidays 2012 #IH4tH2012

My baby girl...
Did you know JR was adopted? Lately, the fluffy cuteness of her baby brother, Baby Pom, has been stealing her thunder but she has her own quality traits. To be honest, when I was in the city that day, I had no intentions of getting a dog. I'm a dog lover but it just didn't seem right in my life at the time. My goal in the city at that point was to pick up some literature for work from Barnes and Nobles. It just so happened that Petco was next door and this woman who would forever change my life was holding an adoption event. I, as all curious bystanders would, took a peek...
What I saw took my breath away...there were dogs of all types...old and young, all having been abandoned for some reason or the other. However, there was one particular crate that was getting a whole lot of attention. It was the one my baby girl was in. Amongst a litter of 6 Jack Russells, JR lay quietly. They had been recently rescued out of a domestically violent home. At 7 weeks, she was the opposite of all of her siblings. She was the runt. She was quiet, calm, and sleeping while they jumped and played. She wasn't all white; she was more brindled instead. She was different. Yet she captivated my attention as I stood for hours, just watching her. Before I knew it, I had adopted her and was on my way home with a new crate, bowls, food, and my very own strangely well-behaved fur baby. Or so I thought, she went crazy on me as soon as we got home. The angelic face was shed but I still loved her.

That was the beginning of our adoption story. In her first 6 months of life, she underwent 3 surgeries, which broke our hearts. 2+ years later, she is now healthy and my ever so precious princess. I can't imagine life without her and believe that our adoption of her was one of the best decisions we have ever made.

My happy girl...
Iams Home 4 the Holidays (IH4TH) 2012 is back this year to help spread the word and help get these fur balls of love adopted into loving homes. This post is to help spread the awareness of adoption and also, my entry to attempt to win a trip to Barkworld this year. I was recently exposed to conferences this year and have found that they are invaluable to developing my blog and getting the adoption message across. I would like to learn to use social media better and learn how to utilize my massive reach better...how to touch people's hearts and empower them to make better decisions and most of all, how rewarding adoption can be.

Please take the time to help me share my post to help increase my chances. If you have a chance, RT this for me.

What an amazing story! All of our dogs have been rescued as well. Our most recent from the local shelter. I truly believe that rescuing these pups is the only way to go for a lifetime companion.

Thanks for adopting this beauty. We have always had mutts from shelters or abandoned dogs. They are truly wonderful pets!

She is adorable, but then I've thought so since the first time I saw her in your blog! I have a rat terrier (very close to a Jack Russell) and a pom as well, and can relate to you on many levels! My rat (MaggieMae) is very well behaved - she listens better than the kids!- and my pom is crazy unruly (typical male). They are my babies, and both rescues too!

@Kay Maher, Your two are so similar to my two! BabyPom is a boy and he is better behaved now but he's always so hyper that it's crazy. JR has developed into a fine lady. She has her hyper moments but she really is the best behaved!

What a precious dog! All of our pets are from either the Humane Society or friends that had to move. It's the best thing we ever did.

Awwwww, I love adoption stories! We didn't plan to adopt Felix either - he kind of dropped in our laps but we would trade him for anything in the world!
