The first thought that crosses one's mind when you think of Steven Spielberg's Lincoln is that it's a movie for history buffs. However, I beg to differ. Although, the film details Lincoln's life much like a documentary, there was something different about this film. Perhaps, it was the Disney magic.
Charged with emotions and tension, we follow Lincoln's journey as he attempts to banish slavery forever. Finding aid in unlikely people, this movie held me at the edge of my seat in anticipation of what would happen next. That was just how amazing it was. Despite the obvious history that already happened, there was something that made that fact disappear. Instead, I was watching history in the making. It's as if I was transported to that time era and watching events as they slowly unraveled.
War wasn't all that we saw in this movie. Humor was interjected at what seemed the perfect moments. I found myself liking Lincoln and much of the cast. The portrayal of Licoln was a character that didn't run from "True North" and marched forward to his goals no matter what he had to do or what adversaries he faced. Treachery and underhanded methods woven into what we typically see and expect in politics were quite openly displayed. This was quite refreshing for a number of the attendees because Spielberg didn't try to hide Lincoln behind a false facade. Lincoln knew that if he played straight, he would've never been able to make such revolutionary change and Spielberg wasn't afraid to show it. It just goes to show how amazing of a man Lincoln really was, even to a Canadian who knew very little about him.
The acting in this movie was to be applauded and I have no doubts in my mind that Lincoln will be a strong Oscar contender. Each and every actor drew you deeper and deeper into the movie, especially Daniel Lewis Day and his unlikely partner in crime, Mr. Stevens (Tommy Lee Jones). I feel incredibly blessed that I was able to screen Lincoln. This classic American history story may not seem as appealing to those who aren't history buffs but you'd be surprised. I believe Lincoln will quickly turn into a much loved movie for a much wider audience. It is for an slightly older age crowd as there are some scenes of blood, guts, and bodies strewn every which way. However, I would recommend checking it out for sure when it gets into limited theaters 11/09 and everywhere 11/16.

My husband and I both are history nuts, I think this would be a great movie for us both to watch!
I have heard such amazing things about this movie.
Looking forward to seeing this one! I love learning more about history.
Another great review for this, this is definitely something I'd love to see!
I want to see this very badly. When I first heard about it, I told my husband "did you see they have a new Abraham Lincoln movie out?" he thought i was talking about the stupid vampire hunter one. NO WAY! That's not my kind of movie...this one is! I'm so excited about the history aspect, the amazing actors/actresses and the brilliant director. I can't wait to see this!
