You know me, I'm always chasing after the latest trends in health and fitness. It recently came across my attention that there's a program out there that's not just a fad. It's the Fast Metabolism Diet Program. The creator, Haylie Pomroy, has been touted to have helped thousands of clients lose up to 20 pounds in just four weeks and psst, they get to eat...LOTS! That's pretty impressive!
Yet I wonder what body size they started with. Anyhow, it's all through the fat-burning power of food. The diet is about choosing what foods are needed to stimulate your metabolism and work itself naturally as a fat-burning machine. It's definitely was a bigger challenge than normal because I was getting ready to move and attempting to finish off food in my apartment but I tried my best given the circumstances.
First things first, I definitely enjoyed the eating that came along with this diet. The guiltless eating meant less stress and less fat storage hormones. However, the diet does come down to eating healthier, good quality foods. Less artificial flavors and more natural, organic foods. There are 3 phases you rotate through weekly for four weeks. Phase 1 (Monday/Tuesday) is lots of carbs and fruits, lean protein and almost no fats. What I mean by healthier and better though is the carbs we are aiming for include brown rice, oatmeal, and alternative grains like quinoa. Stay away from refined sugars, wheat, and corn.
Phase 2 (Wednesday/Thursday) includes lots of protein and veggies. We're going low carb and low fat here. The purpose of phase 2 is to eat foods that cause your metabolism to burn fat and build the muscles. So, it's also recommended that you should incorporate a day of weight training in there using heavy weights with low reps. I love how there's a list of foods so you know exactly which foods are okay.
Phase 3 (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) includes everything above and lots of healthy fats and oils like nuts and seeds. I like this phase, this is the phase that Haylie Pomroy says is "the phase that flattens your belly and irons out your cellulite". Sign me up for that! All you need is a little healthy fat to stimulate the fat burning properties.
Okay, so I'm sold, I want to try it but the problem with my schedule is that it was too hectic. I was trying to finish off the foods we had at home before the move. Then I was travelling and lacking in the good quality food department. So, needless to say, it was tough. What I needed to do was to sit down and make a schedule of each week's food list.
I did eat 5 times a day. I would do breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, and dinner. My foods may not have been 100% spot on every time but I had the healthy fats and so on. I had a hard time with a few of the rules specifically the no dairy, no artificial sweeteners, no caffeine, and no alcohol. It's tough! I can't avoid caffeine when I'm driving 20 hours over 2 days.
The book has chapters for each of the four weeks including daily meal maps for you to fill in what foods to eat, encouragement and more. There are recipes at the end for four weeks worth as well. I definitely think the Fat Metabolism Diet is worth a try. Afterall, it's a book that you try to adapt your lifestyle to. The commitment from then on is up to you. For me, my life is almost impossible to fit to this regimen right now but I am happy to have been able to take away pointers to improve my metabolism. In this time that I tried to follow along, I was able to get rid of the extra 5lbs I gained in the time family was visiting.
I am looking forward to actually sitting down and planning out a meal schedule properly when life settles down and I can pick up this book again. Have you tried the #FastMetabolismDiet before?
