As a family, we love pizza, the cheesy strings, the hot crispy crust...mmm, just the thought makes me drool! We've ordered out, we've baked pre-made pizzas, and we've even made our own in the oven. We've never tried grilling it before, which was the challenge this time around!
With summer here, we do a lot of grilling and we thought, why not? Let's give it a whirl. What I didn't expect was how much it turned into a family affair.
We used a lot of tips from Pillsbury and it made it so much easier so here's how we did it with tips and all!
How to Grill Pizza -Grilled mushroom, sausage, and onion pizza
Ingredients:
1) Pillsbury thin pizza crust
2) 1 cups Pizza Sauce -I prefer to use mushroom pasta sauce
3) 1 small onion, diced
4) 1.5 cups of pre-cooked sausage, sliced
5) 2oz Bella mushrooms, diced
6) 1/2 cup Shredded Mozzarella cheese
Steps:
1) Fire up the grill.
2) I used large aluminum foil, sprayed cooking spray on it and then unrolled the Pillsbury thin crust onto it, making it as thin as possible. You may need to use that extra large foil or two adjacent pieces.
3) Spray cooking spray or spread cooking oil on the exposed side. Place that side down on the grill and peel off the tin foil.
4) Let it cook briefly until it's golden brown. Then flip it and let it cook another couple minutes.
5) Take it off the grill and add your sauce and ingredients.
6) Toss back into grill, lowering the heat and letting it cook, covered for a bit. This is why it's important to have small topping ingredients that will easily cook or are cooked already.
7) Cut into squares and enjoy!
Ours disappeared so quickly! What made it even more awesome was the fact that we were all a part of the cooking process.
