Given that even Doctor Oz was recommending and touting Garcinia Cambogia as the new diet and weight loss miracle, I was excited to test it out. Garcinia Cambogia is a type of fruit rind that developing research suggest might help to prevent fat storage and control appetite. However, the studies are conflicting. Let's put it to the test!
The formulas I tested were the Garcinia Cambogia Advanced and the Slender Cleanse Advanced. The Garcinia Cambogia combination was developed based on Oz's recommendations of pure extract, at least 60% HCA (Hydroxycitric Acid - the primary active compound found in Garcinia Cambogia), without any artificial fillers or ingredients. Slender Cleanse Advanced was their recommended 7 day all natural gentle way to cleaning out your colon.
Curious about this new wonder weight loss supplements, I started by examining the bottles. I wanted to see what ingredients there were in each bottle and the directions to appropriately take them.
Per the bottle, the Garcinia was meant to be taken 2 tabs/day. However, on their online site, the recommended usage was 2 tabs 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals. Alright, having read the container first, I decided to follow those instructions but I never really knew that I was supposed to take them pre-meal. The bottle advertises the 60% HCA, which is the one you want to get if you're planning to try this in order for it to be effective. 1 tablet contains 1000 mg of the Garcinia Cambogia extract and the recommended serving size is 2 capsules.
The Slender Cleanse Advanced recommended usage is one tablet twice a day 30 minutes before meals with an 8 oz glass of water. Adding an entire glass of water will help to satiate and fill you. Reviewing the ingredients revealed 400mg of Green Coffee Bean Extract and a formula that contained a variety of seeds, senna, prune juice, and various other stool softening/laxative ingredients. Short and sweet, it works to promote regularity.
I had my reservations about the Slender Cleanse. I don't typically write about bowel habits and the like but if you're someone who has a regularity already and works a minimum of 12 hours, sometimes 18 hour days, you don't necessarily want even more regularity to make an already long day even longer. I was only using 1 tablet per day. Work needs to be done!
In terms of the Garcinia, well, I was taking it as prescribed on the bottle, 2 tabs per day. I'm not sure if not taking it 30 minutes before the meals affected the efficacy but the conflicted recommendations made it difficult to follow.
Now the part that everyone is curious about... did they work? Having taken both supplements for 2-3 weeks now, here's what I've noticed.
-My waistline is shrinking again! Woot, I've lost about 1/2" and getting closer back to what it was.
-My weight still fluctuates so I haven't really noticed any particular change in terms of weight loss.
-My appetite is smaller, probably due to a combination of increased fluid intake and Garcinia Cambogia.
-I'm snacking less in between meals.
I did notice a modest change in my waist line and perhaps my pooch. Perhaps if I attempted to take it 3 times per day like the site says rather than the bottle, I may have seen more changes. However, that is a source of improvement for the company as well, clarifying which dosage consumers should take and have it on the labels.
The combo retails for ~$40 and if taken as per the bottles, would last you 1 month. It may be worth a try for a couple of months, however if you were to do it, I'd probably test it out at the website recommended dose of 3 doses/day.
