Our household is filled with fans of "based on true story" movies so we gravitate to them already. However, Arthur the King adds on such an amazing spin on our typical based on true story movies because it also happens to have man's best friend, a dog, in it. Arthur the King is now available on Premium Video on Demand and Premium Electronic Sell-Through, and on Electronic Sell-Through, Blu-ray (+ DVD + Digital), and DVD from Lionsgate.

Check out the trailer:

Synopsis:
Over the course of ten days and 435 miles, an unbreakable bond is forged between pro adventure racer Michael Light (Mark Wahlberg) and a scrappy street dog companion dubbed Arthur. Based on an incredible true story, ARTHUR THE KING follows Light, desperate for one last chance to win, as he convinces a sponsor to back him and a team of athletes (Simu Liu, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Ali Suliman) for the Adventure Racing World Championship in the Dominican Republic. As the team is pushed to their outer limits of endurance in the race, Arthur redefines what victory, loyalty and friendship truly mean.

Arthur the King is a story of perserverence and a demonstration of the rare bond of true friendship and loyalty. Arthur the stray dog who has already clearly has had a tough, difficult life shows up and somehow, amazingly, changes everyone's lifes and perspectives. The fact that he was already injured but continued to travel side-by-side with his new found friends is simply put -amazing. We've always known animals have some sort of sixth sense of danger, but wow, to see how Arthur saved the team from the cliff you see in the trailer is something else.

Arthur the King had a great panel of actors and actresses, who I believe did a great job. They were able to get us on the edge of our seats for the ziplining portion and grab our heart for being human and empathetic.

Arthur the King is full of emotions and is a great family movie. However, there are certainly heart tugging parts that got both me and my kindergartner. To watch Arthur in pain and yet pushing forward and the tenacity adventure racers need to have to even compete is truly awe-inspiring. Life is tough, that is a truth, however what you do makes all the difference. In Arthur the King, they all continue forward despite all the hurdles and I think that is why Arthur the King resonated with us so much. I know this is all based on prior events but you can't help but feel scared with them, sad with them, cry for them, and even cheer for them as if it were occurring in real time. The story highlights the kinder side of people and warms the heart, redefining what victory truly means. And yes, it's vital for me to know what happens to Arthur after all of this so I googled it as well as watched it at the end of the movie. I'm so glad the producers included it. Bottom line, our family has a whole LOVED Arthur the King.

In addition to the movie, here are some fun Arthur the King theme things to do with the family. Check out this fun paw-tastic craft for a DIY pawprint keepsake inspired by Arthur the King. Then spoil your furbabies with this "Meatball" Dog treats which is the very thing that started this beautiful friendship.
